Looks in Detail:
Whisperingstar is a well-built she-cat with dark tortoiseshell fur. Most of her larger spots are black, though the more interesting features of her patterning are the deep red stripes that touch the edges of her eyes and curve around her crisp jawline. Whisperingstar has the large, flat paws of a HawkClanner and the love of using them to explore the harsh territory she has always lived in. She has a white throat and belly and very silky fur. Whisperingstar's eyes are almond-shaped and tip up at the edges; their color is a light green that stands out starkly against the dark color of her nose. Whisperingstar has a sculpted muzzle that gives her a naturally majestic expression, though she often ruins the effect because of her habit for making faces. Though she possesses great strength and agility, she carries herself graciously.
Personality:
While in looks she often comes across as contemplative and stern, Whisperingstar is, at heart, a very free-spirited cat. In general she doesn't take life too seriously, though she recognizes the situations in which her optimism and cheerful disposition don't exactly help her Clan. Whisperingstar is intelligent––sometimes obnoxiously so. Many cats dislike her sarcastic comments and insistance on being right, or at least heard. She is strong and steady on her paws. Not much gets her riled up, though she honestly hates the dreary duties that keep her locked up in camp when she would rather be out and about, hunting for her Clan. Though not exactly a boundless source of energy, Whisperingstar still prefers an active life to the restrictions of a leader's duty. Whisperingstar is devoutly faithful to StarClan, and often places more trust in them than some cats think is wise. Whisperingstar loves her Clanmates, but sometimes she has a hard time getting them to see from her point of view about such matters. She is an extremely determined orator, though, and cannot be said to give up easily in any debate. Whisperingstar is stubborn and often will refuse to back down on issues that don't even mean that much to her. Most cats know it's better not to confront her––though if you must, be prepared for a showdown. Stupidity, injustice, and disloyalty are about the only things that stir up Whisperingstar's temper––which is probably a good thing, because when unleashed it is quite a fearsome thing to behold. Whisperingstar is usually good at controlling her emotions, though she is sometimes given to bouts of melancholy when her optimism clashes with the harsh life of a warrior. All in all, though, she is a hard cat to keep down and leads her Clan with determination and an unwavering faith.
HISTORY & RP SAMPLE
History:
Grizzlyfur and Doespot of HawkClan had been trying for many moons to have a litter of kits to raise. Doespot's first birthing proved unfruitful, as one of the three kits was stillborn and the other two died of sickness soon after birth. The loss devastated Doespot, but she refused to give up hope of being a mother, as she'd always dreamed. Finally she was able to give birth to two she-kits. One was healthy and had the same spotted fur as her mother, while the other had her father's dark tabby pelt and was small and frail from the beginning. The two parents were very kind and responsible parents. But Doespot suffered from periods of depression and she often had to leave the care of the kits to one of the other queens, Tigercloud, who had two kits of her own named Blackkit and Umberkit. Whisperingkit was a quiet and shy kit at first, which was why her mother whose that name. Her sister, Brittlekit, soon became a big talker to make up for her small stature and sickly disposition. Her boasting got her in trouble frequently with Blackkit, who had the same temper, and the two often got into fights that Whisperingkit usually ended. Brittlekit had the mouth in those days, but Whisperingkit definitely had the brawn. Blackkit was bigger than her but was clumsy and did not have her instinctive grasp of fighting moves. Whisperingkit therefore helped protect her sister from the consequences of her obstinate nature.
Still, the two could only be so close for so long. When the day of their apprenticeship came along, their mentors, Peaklight and Winterbreath, made it a point to separate the two. Whisperingpaw didn't mind so much, since her one-on-one sessions with Winterbreath helped her to gain confidence and speak up more. She became more comfortable voicing her own opinions when it suited her, and many cats were surprised to find her competent and engaging in conversation, despite the shyness she had exhibited before the influence of her confident mentor. Her parents noticed the change and encouraged her to hone the sharpness of her mind as well as her claws. Brittlepaw did not like seeing her sister gain so much more attention because of her words as well as her fighting skills, so she began to devise schemes and adventures with Blackpaw that inevitably got her into many sticky situations. It was one of these excursions––to track a fox a patrol had scented near the border––that ultimately led to the disastrous event that expanded the distance between Brittlepaw and Whisperingpaw irreparably. Blackpaw and Brittlepaw found and fought the fox, but they were not capable of taking it on alone. Blackpaw's wounds were too deep and he died soon after a patrol came and rescued them. Brittlepaw's left foreleg had been deeply scored by the fox's claws. The wound seemed fine at first, but it became infected and ultimately Brittlepaw lost all feeling around the joint. She became increasingly despondent after the news and was forced to retire to the elder's den before she had even been named a warrior. She was given the name Brittleheart and most days she spent in the camp helping the medicine cat with whatever tasks needed to be helped with.
Whisperingpaw was saddened by her sister's fate, but Brittleheart's jealousy of her became so bad she wouldn't even look at Whisperingpaw most of the time. The gap between them was finally too wide to cross. So Whisperingpaw continued her training and worked herself hard to make up for Brittleheart's lack of ability to enjoy the life of a normal warrior. By the name Whisperingpaw earned her warrior name of Whisperingstream she had fully earned the honor twice over––or so her leader told her.
Whisperingstream's first seasons as a warrior went well enough. She was often rebuked for trying to do too much, but it was difficult to convince the she-cat to settle when she felt that Brittleheart's dreams also rested on her shoulders. She was given an apprentice at a fairly early age, mostly to curb her habit of overworking herself. The apprentice's name was Honeypaw, and she was difficult in many ways to work with. But Whisperingstream was patient and helped to calm the energetic apprentice down. Honeypaw wasn't all that concerned with thinking––she was more of a visceral being. But Whisperingstream's influence turned her into a decent warrior, all the same. She earned her name of Honeydrop and remained close with Whisperingstream even after becoming a warrior.
The deputy of HawkClan died some seasons later trying to protect one of the young apprentices from an eagle while hunting in the mountains. Whisperingstream was appointed in his place, though the choice was debated for a time. But HawkClan's leader insisted that she would approach the position with the fervor HawkClan would need from its deputy. Whisperingstream did indeed take to the job well. She was not one to covet leadership, but she was naturally somewhat charismatic and proved good at organization and delegation. Eventually HawkClan's leader passed on to StarClan. By then Whisperingstar was ready to take on the responsibility of leadership, and she slipped into the role easily enough and has been serving HawkClan as leader ever since.
RP Sample:
Whisperingstar poked the mouse Honeydrop had brought her with one white paw and squinted at it with an expression that resembled skepticism. The whiskers above Honeydrop's eyes rose slightly and she grinned, the expression warping the ginger stripes that lined her strong cheek bones and round jaw.
"Have a problem with my catch?" she asked in a light voice, nudging Whisperingstar on the shoulder with her tail tip.
"Only with the sparsity of other options," Whisperingstar replied, examining the fresh-kill pile across the clearing. She wished she could feed her Clan single-pawed, but in the cold weather, with the hawks and eagles desperate for food, it was dangerous to press one's luck in their mountainous hunting grounds.
"The elders and queens have fed already," Honeydrop pointed out.
"I know, but my warriors haven't. Why don't you take this mouse? I'll go out on a patrol and try to bring in something for myself." Whisperingstar stood and shook out her silky tortoiseshell fur. Her bushy tail, unusually thick compared to her smooth pelt, lashed back and forth as she stalked towards the entrance to HawkClan's camp. She ignored Honeydrop sending protests after her, not caring that she hadn't eaten, that she was HawkClan's leader and took priority over an ordinary warrior. All that hierarchy stuff was mostly nonsense anyways. Whisperingstar twitched her whiskers and made her way to the den just beside the camp entrance. Calling for some other cats to join her, she contemplated the harshness of winter and its cold grip on her throat as the stinging weather plagued the Clan. We'll get through it, she thought, waiting as cats filed out of the den to join her patrol. She watched them with measured green eyes, her expression imperceptible. We always do. She sighed.
